1. Where do you want to die?

I know what you’re thinking: “WHOA! That’s heavy shit Jodi!”

But really, what is your answer? Most of us would probably die at home, in bed, in our sleep right? I know my Grampa did. My mother did everything in her power to keep him home and let him pass peacefully in a home full of love. Death, its a scary thing right? What if you were just a kid?

“Now you’re talking about dying kids? WTF Jodi!”

Well here comes reality folks, kids die. Cancer, accidents, Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy. Thats the one I want to talk to you about, Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy. Well actually the disease itself is irrelevant. The boy behind the disease now that gives me something to talk about.

Tanner. I don’t know him. I don’t know his family. Hell I just heard about him this week. But damned if I havnt been thinking about him a bunch. At first I skimmed my tweets and thought nothing of all the talk about running through NYC during BlogHer, I wasnt going and quite honestly Im still not sure what “BlogHer” is. Then came posts about wearing a tutu, making a tutu, running in a tutu. Hashtags, #tooniesfortanner, #tutusfortanner and since Im the curious sort (AKA nosey, so sue me) I went a hunting…

Tanner is dying. He has Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy. There is a possibility that the scariest part of Tanners short life will happen away from his family and home. Im not going to try and tell Tanners story, its not my place. Click the link at the end of the page for more about Tanner.

I am going to tell you what immediately ran through my mind. Monkey. My angel-faced, stubborn, smart, beautiful reason for getting up in the morning (even if its only in body until coffee is added to the mix). The thought of losing her is un-describable. The thought of losing her and possibly not being with her, or not being able to surround her with family and love at that time absolutely destroys me.

“Ok Jodi, what are you trying to say? Is there a point to this depressing blog post?”

Yup, sure is! Tanner doesn’t have to die away from his home and family, but his family needs help to make it happen.

    “Oh, you want money.”

Well *I* don’t want anything. Hell I’m involved to the tune of exactly 10 bucks, this blog post and the occasional tweet. But I think Tanner would sure love your help. Think about it this way, If it was your kid would you give up Tim Hortons for a day to have them at home? 2 bucks, 5 bucks, 10 bucks, 100 bucks… every cent means something. Economic downturn gotcha counting pennies? Can you afford 10 seconds to send out a tweet for Tanner? 20 seconds for a facebook status? How about a minute to at least read his story? Or 2 to link this blog post on your blog just to help spread the word. Alyssa Milano is doing it, don’t you want to be cool like Alyssa Milano? (Yes Im serious…Go see for yourself)

So if I’ve caught your attention, and you want more info on how you can help Tanner or just to know more about Tanner, click below. Did I mention you could win an iPad? Oh, I forgot to mention that? Yup, you could get points for your karma bank, help a little boy who needs it AND possibly win an iPad all in one! Lets make it happen people…
